The Celebration of International Day of Persons With Disabilities 2024

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated grandly by Amar Seva Sangam on 28 th December 2024 at Kovilpatti, Tuticorin District, Tamil Nadu. The event began at 10.00 a.m. with awareness rally in which around 1,000 persons with disabilities participated which was flagged off by the Thoothukudi District Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Jeganathan. Cultural programs were conducted from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon by children with disabilities. Followed by this the Secretary of Amar Seva Sangam, Mr. Sankararaman, welcomed everyone with an opening address. The organization's President, Mr. Ramakrishnan, conveyed his greetings through a video message. The event was presided over by the leader of the DMK Parliamentary Committee and Member of Parliament for Thoothukudi, Honorable Kanimozhi Karunanidhi. She spoke about the significance of persons with disabilities, their rehabilitation and the impactful work of Amar Seva Sangam. Another important dignitary, Mrs. Geetha Jeevan, Honorable Minister for Social Welfare and Women’s Development, participated as the Guest of Honour and delivered a special address. Additional Highlights: – Wheelchairs were distributed to 14 persons with disabilities. – Prizes were awarded to winners of sports competitions for persons with disabilities. – At this event Amar Seva Sangam launched an innovative inclusive calendar with Braille embossed through the august hands of Honourable MP, Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Honourable Minister, Ms. Geetha Jeevan. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Village-based Rehabilitation Coordinator, Mr. Esakkimuthu, followed by reciting the National Anthem.
